Artist Statement
Gretchen C. Burke
AHS Spanish teacher and pastel artist.
My work is inspired by travel, family and the natural world but only exists because of my supportive artist mother, father and husband. I grew up in Willmar MN, graduated from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls with a degree in Biology and Spanish Secondary Education and live with my husband and 9 year old son in Ashland, WI. From a young age I have always enjoyed drawing and art in its many forms probably because art appreciation runs in my family. This said, I didn’t publicly display my art until after my son was born, my parents moved up here, and I found the support I needed to join an incredible pastel group that meets weekly.
