ArtistsCall Artists paint plein air Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Saturday morning is an optional Quick Paint Event in which the artist has 90 minutes to complete a painting in the harbor area. After the Quick Paint, artists have an hour and a half to finish framing their works and bring them to the Town Hall for hanging and judging.

2023 Judge Brian Szott
Recently retired, Brian Szott enjoyed a 35 year career in the visual arts -- culminating in a 20 year stint as Curator of Art at the Minnesota Historical Society in St. Paul. With a specialty in the history of art making in Minnesota, Szott has organized numerous exhibitions such as Seth Eastman: Artist on the Frontier, Charles Beck: An Artist for All Seasons, Clouds and Shadows and, in 2022, Art Speaks.Szott has a particular interest in landscape painting of the upper midwest. He is also a co-author of the 2015 publication Minnesota Modern: Four Artists of the 20th Century. Szott lives in Port Wing part-time with his wife, artist Kathy Gilmore. Together, they enjoy gardening, ice dams and walks on quarry beach.
