Rachel Melis’ work gives visual form to metaphors from literature, her family, the environment, and environmental movements. She focuses on print, public art, plein air, and book projects to reach audiences of varied backgrounds and ages. She teaches printmaking, book arts, biological illustration, and graphic design at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University in Minnesota. Rachel gained her MFA at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, her BA at Grinnell College, and her love of Lake Superior growing up on its South Shore (her parents’ Port Wing home is pictured here).
